Coming Home to Myself: My Favorite Self-Care Habits

In a world that constantly demands more—more productivity, more availability, more energy—I've learned that true wellness begins not in doing, but in being. For me, self-care isn’t just a trend or a weekend treat; it’s a lifestyle, an act of devotion to myself, and a way to ensure I can show up in my fullness for others. Over time, I've discovered that self-care isn't a one-size-fits-all practice, but there are a few areas that have become non-negotiable in my journey: spiritual, physical, and mental care. Each is deeply connected, and when one is off, I feel the imbalance everywhere. Here’s how I’ve been pouring into myself intentionally and lovingly.
1. Spiritual Alignment First, Always
If my spirit isn’t at peace, nothing else flows. I’ve come to understand that no matter how well I eat, how much I move my body, or how many boxes I check off my to-do list, if I’m not grounded spiritually, everything feels misaligned. For me, spirituality isn’t necessarily about rigid structure or rules—it's about connection. It’s about quieting the noise so I can hear myself and, more importantly, hear God.
All days, this looks like prayer. I am constant conversation with God. Other days, it’s journaling through my thoughts, meditating on The Word, or simply going for a walk in nature and allowing gratitude to rise naturally. I check in with myself: How am I really feeling? What do I need today? That pause is special. It brings me back to center and reminds me that I am not alone, that I am guided, by The Lord Jesus Christ and that through Him I am already enough.
2. Honoring My Body with Movement and Nourishment
Lately, I’ve fallen in love with Pilates. What I love most is that it challenges me without depleting me. It’s a graceful strength, a forceful power. I leave each session feeling taller, stronger, and connected to my body in a way I haven’t felt in a long time. For so long, movement felt like punishment or a box to check. Now, it feels like gratitude—a way to thank my body for being a vessel carrying me through life.
Alongside movement, I’ve become that woman who reads nutrition labels like an adult (finally!). I used to grab things off the shelf without a second thought, but now I pause and ask: What is in this? Will it nourish me or drain me? I’ve been drinking more water, eating more whole foods, and being intentional about what I consume—not from a place of restriction, but from a place of respect. My body is a home, and I want to take care of it like one.
3. Nurturing My Mind & Protecting My Peace
Mental wellness has been a journey of deep unlearning and gentle rebuilding. One of the most transformative shifts for me has been learning how to set and maintain boundaries. Saying “no” no longer feels like a rejection—it feels like a gift to myself. I no longer overextend or people-please at the expense of my own well-being. Protecting my peace is a priority.
I’ve also started keeping promises to myself, no matter how small. Whether it’s committing to a 10-minute journaling, saying my affirmations, reading one chapter a day, or finally signing up for that class I’ve been eyeing—following through on these little things has built so much trust with myself. It’s empowering. It's self-care.

This year, I challenged myself to start learning a new language. It’s humbling and exciting all at once, reminding me that it’s never too late to try something new. I’ve also made space for joy—spa days, solo matcha dates, luxury vacations, and quiet nights with a good book. I don’t wait for a big occasion to celebrate myself. Sometimes, just getting through a hard week deserves a little treat. A candlelit bath. A new lipstick. A simple “I’m proud of you.”
In Closing…
Self-care isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it’s asking for help. Sometimes it’s resting when I’d rather push through. Sometimes it’s turning off the phone and tuning into my breath. But what I’ve learned is this: I am my own responsibility here on earth. And when I take care of myself—spiritually, physically, and mentally—I show up softer, stronger, and more present.
This journey back to myself these past 5 years and counting has been anything but linear, but it’s been worth every step. If you’re in the process of redefining what self-care looks like for you, I hope this serves as a gentle reminder that you are allowed to prioritize yourself. You are allowed to grow. And you are so, so worthy of your own care.
